The recently released Grand Theft Auto V for PC will give PC
gamers hours of thrill and chaos on the streets of Los Santos. But if you want
to go a step further and display your creativity on YouTube, or take the first
steps towards becoming the next PewDiePie, you have an in-game video editor
tool at your disposal to do so. The Rockstar Editor lets you record, edit and
share any kind of carnage you wish to bring on Los Santos or any in-game
goofiness that you think is worth sharing both on GTA V and GTA Online. There
are special camera modes, depth of field, filters and audio customizations to
let you create sequences from the Story Mode or clips featuring pedestrians and
animals. The process is easy, seamless and doesn't cause gameplay to lag like
third party solutions such as FRAPS often do.
How to Record Clips
While on a mission or in between missions, simply press ALT
and F1 together to turn on the Manual Recording mode and record footage. You
can save a gameplay moment that you think is worth sharing by pressing Left Alt
and F1 together, or cancel recording with Left Alt and F3. The clips you have
saved will later on play back in the order of recording. Canceling recording
will delete all data saved since the last save.
You can also save epic moments in the gameplay right after
they have taken place with the Action replay feature. Just as the single tap of
a button on the XBox One or PS4 lets you record moments after they've happened,
you can press F2 to use Action Replay. The game will keep buffering recorded
data until you press Alt + F1 to Save Action Replay.
Details of Clips
Recorded clips are automatically saved with titles in the
format 'Month DD YYYY Clip Number' and sizes vary. If you are using Action
Replay to record a segment, files can clock up to between 30 seconds and 1
minute and 30 seconds. Manual Recording will give you more control over how
long the clip lasts. As you make more recordings, you can view clips and clear
up space with Clip Management. Go to the Pause Menu, click on Settings followed
by Rockstar Editor. You'll find the Clip Management menu that lets you delete
files that you no longer want.
How to Edit Clips
When you are ready to edit, go to the Rockstar Editor,
select Create New Project and Add Clip to edit. Bring the files you want to the
timeline. Double click to edit, scroll through each frame with the mouse wheel
and use the effects available to trick up the video. You can also duplicate
clips by pressing the LEFT CTRL + C, delete with DEL or click and drag to move
clips around on the timeline. Be sure to use F5 often to save as you work.
How to Save and Export
Once you are happy with your masterpiece, you're ready to
export. Use Save Project As to give it a different name or store different
versions. The Project Main Menu has the Export option to let you set the
BitRate, Frame Rate and prepare the file for export. Export times will vary
depending on your hardware and effect choices.
Finally, you can upload your video to YouTube or the
Rockstar Social Club from the Video Gallery (which you will find in the Main
Menu of the Rockstar Editor). Enjoy the video fullscreen and then share to let
others get a laugh or two out of your creation and even get inspired to make
their own!
